Reclaim Raider Nation
Greetings, Site visitors!Welcome to my curiosity.
See, I have been a fan of the Oakland/Los Angeles/Oakland Raiders for as long as I have been a fan of professional sports. And I’m no spring chicken. As of the publication of this page, I’m 38 years of age. Along with a small band of fellow Nationals, we have lived and died with this team for decades. I feel that I’ve earned the right to start asking some questions – polling the rest of Raider Nation, and beyond.
I’m also footing the bill for this website. According to the free market, that also gives me the right.
Now…….let’s chat.
Can anyone explain what it means to be a sports fan? It defies logic if you ask me – or my girlfriend (hell, most girlfriends). I mean, how much of our hard-earned cash do we spend on tickets, paraphernalia, travel – and perhaps worst of all, those pride-driven wagers? What kind of long-term reward do we get from such expenditures? Fact is, we want to be part of something bigger. It’s evolutionary. Man started family, family led to clan, clan led to tribe, tribe led to township, township to city, city to nation. A citizen of Rome living in “Spain” was still a citizen of Rome: and as such, was part of something far greater than his olive farm and local tapas bar.
He was a member of the greatest nation on earth.
I hope that sounds familiar to some of you who are reading this.
Like Rome, our Nation has been under attack, not only from beyond, but from within. We seem to be living in an all new kind of Nation – StagNation. It can be argued (and this site hopes to be a forum for such arguments) that it is impossible for there to be stagnation in an organization that changes their head coach and quarterback pretty much every year. But ponder the post-Gruden era, and tell me where this franchise has improved.
I’ll be waiting for your response.
